In a high-voltage clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match 49 of the IPL 2025 at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, Sam Curran turned the heat on with a scintillating knock that left fans in awe and the opposition rattled. Coming in at No.3 after the early dismissal of Shaik Rasheed, Curran took matters into his own hands.

Struggling to find form in earlier games, the England all-rounder found his rhythm in style, reaching a fluent half-century off just 30 deliveries. The left-hander combined timing with power, anchoring the innings before switching gears to launch an all-out assault on young PBKS all-rounder Suryansh Shedge in the 16th over.

What unfolded next was pure carnage. Curran smashed back-to-back sixes on the first two deliveries — one sailing over long-on and the other over mid-wicket. The third delivery, a costly no-ball, gave PBKS no respite. Curran capitalised with two consecutive fours on the next two legal deliveries and took a single off the final ball to plunder 26 runs from the over. His aggressive 88 off 47 balls, including nine fours and four sixes, was a masterclass in pressure batting and fell just 12 short of a deserving century.

Post-match, fellow CSK batter Dewald Brevis also reflected on the energy at Chepauk and what it means to be part of the franchise. Speaking in a video shared on IPL’s website, Brevis, who recently celebrated his birthday, called his experience with CSK “truly special.”
“This place is electric,” he said. “The atmosphere at Chepauk is something else. The fans, the energy, it all lifts you up. Playing for CSK is a privilege, and we’re always ready for what’s next.”

Brevis, who’s been a valuable asset for CSK in the middle order, spoke about his willingness to adapt for the team’s needs. “I’ll bat wherever the team wants me. I enjoy the middle overs but if I have to open, I’ll do that too. What matters most is contributing when it counts.”
With Curran back in form and Brevis oozing confidence, CSK’s campaign looks stronger as they eye the playoff spots.
