In the IPL 2024 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Eden Gardens, KKR’s skipper Shreyas Iyer faced a disappointing outing, falling victim to the precision of Mumbai Indians’ pacer Anshul Kamboj. The packed stadium was left in disbelief as Kamboj delivered a ball that darted in from outside off, crashing into Iyer’s leg stump in what resembled a Steve Smith-esque dismissal.

Iyer, batting at No.4, struggled to find his rhythm against the probing deliveries from the Mumbai Indians’ bowlers. On the fifth ball of the fifth over, Kamboj’s delivery shaped in sharply, catching Iyer off guard as he attempted to maneuver across the stumps. The ball kissed the outside edge of the leg stump, sending Iyer back to the pavilion with just 7 runs to his name.

Despite Iyer’s early departure, Venkatesh Iyer stepped up to stabilize the innings for KKR. The left-hander showcased his batting prowess with an impressive knock, smashing 42 runs off just 21 deliveries. With a strike rate of 200, Venkatesh Iyer found the boundaries with ease, keeping the scoreboard ticking for KKR after the early setbacks.

However, his promising innings was cut short by Piyush Chawla, leaving KKR in a precarious position at 77 runs for the loss of four wickets. As the innings progressed, the onus fell on Andre Russell to propel KKR to a competitive total against the formidable Mumbai Indians bowling attack.
