The Gujarat Titans (GT) are gearing up for a crucial clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 2. However, the spotlight in the lead-up to the game has been firmly on GT skipper Shubman Gill, whose availability was in doubt following a fitness scare in their previous encounter against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

During the match against RR, Gill appeared to be in discomfort and was seen struggling with back spasms. The issue forced the team to rest him during the second innings, sparking concerns over his participation in the next fixture. However, there’s good news for Titans fans—Gill might just be fit in time. Addressing the media in the pre-match press conference, GT’s Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, offered a promising update, stating that Gill is expected to train and the management remains “reasonably confident” about his availability.
“His fitness—there was a bit of a back spasm. We’re just trying to be careful with it. He’ll be at training today, and we’ll assess how he goes. We’re fairly optimistic that he’ll be ready for the game,” said Vikram Solanki, easing fears about the captain’s absence.

Solanki also reflected on the Titans’ recent loss to the Rajasthan Royals, a game that slipped away due to a sensational knock by young Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Despite the defeat, he refused to label it as a collapse and instead praised Suryavanshi for his brilliance, acknowledging that GT could have executed better plans with the ball.

“I don’t believe we were decimated. We must give credit where it’s due. That young man played a brilliant innings. Sure, we could have bowled more strategically, maybe controlled the game better, but take nothing away from him,” Vikram Solanki stated.
Looking ahead to the game against SRH, Solanki made it clear that the Titans are not taking their opponents lightly, despite Hyderabad’s inconsistent season. He emphasised the quality and depth SRH possess, especially their match-winners who can shift momentum quickly.

“We respect SRH. They have a strong squad with players capable of turning a game on its head. We’ll be wary of the threat they bring,” Vikram Solanki added.
Currently placed fourth on the points table with six wins in nine matches, GT have a chance to climb higher with a victory. A win against SRH would significantly bolster their playoff hopes, and with Gill likely to return, the Titans will look to bring their A-game to Motera.
