Shubman Gill debuted his captaincy stint in the IPL with a bang. Leading the Gujarat Titans, he orchestrated a thrilling victory over the seasoned champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024. In a nerve-wracking encounter, Titans clinched a hard-fought win by six runs, showcasing Gill’s remarkable leadership skills in his maiden IPL captaincy outing.
Despite Mumbai Indians cruising at 129 for 3 while chasing a target of 169, the Titans, under Gill’s astute guidance, staged a stunning comeback in the death overs. Their bowlers delivered under pressure, restricting MI to 162 for 9 and securing a memorable victory.
Looking ahead, Gill aims to continue his winning momentum as Titans gear up to face another formidable opponent, Chennai Super Kings, in their den on Tuesday, March 26. However, amidst the anticipation for the upcoming clash, Gill found himself in a light-hearted moment just before the game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

After winning the toss, Gill initially declared Titans would bat first before amusingly correcting himself, stating, “Sorry, bowl, bowl first.” His counterpart, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, couldn’t help but chuckle at Gill’s inadvertent error.
Interestingly, Shubman Gill’s gaffe at the toss drew comparisons to his ODI opening partner Rohit Sharma, known for his occasional forgetfulness. Sharma once famously paused for 10 seconds during an ODI toss against New Zealand, struggling to recall his team’s decision before eventually recollecting it.
