Simon Katich, the assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders’ believes that Dinesh Karthik can play the role of a finisher and will be selected for the upcoming ICC World Cup. Katich has worked with Dinesh Karthik for a long time and he is aware of Karthik’s batting skills. Katich has said that upcoming IPL could play a big role as Karthik will once again show everyone his ability to finish the match and that might help him get selected in the team for the upcoming mega event.

“I think what Dinesh brings in his experience (in crunch situations). He has played that role very well for India and for us. You know what you will get from him down the innings. He is hard to bowl to,” Katich said to Sportstar on Thursday.

“So he will be in the mix for the World Cup. It will give the Indian selectors a tough job to pick with so much talent around,” he further added.
After having won the two ODIs against Australia, India lost the five-match ODI series to Australia by 3-2. After the third ODI, Rishabh Pant came in place of MS Dhoni for the last two matches as Dhoni was rested. However, the series didn’t go well for Pant as he scored 36 and 16 in the 4th and 5th ODIs respectively and missed some chances of dismissal as well. His poor form helped Dinesh Karthik to back in the contest for the World Cup selection.

However, Katich was all impressed with Australia’s performance and shared that, “The top order was outstanding especially Khawaja, Ashton Turner was great too. Having Smith and Warner back before the World Cup gives us more confidence. Their form hasn’t been brilliant in the last few months but World Cup cricket is all about playing six weeks brilliantly.”

While talking about Steve Smith and David Warner, he said, “It doesn’t matter what happened previously. It’s all about performing under pressure situations in knockout style. Smith and Warner will be hungry.”

“They are hurt by the experience. What happened has happened. They will come back hungry and if they come back firing and rest of the boys are in form, then it will be good,” he further added.
