Pant’s extended absence was the result of a devastating car accident that sidelined him until March 2024. His return is eagerly anticipated, especially by Delhi Capitals’ mentor Sourav Ganguly, who has expressed his excitement about Pant’s comeback, noting that he has regained his pre-accident form.
“He was superb for us (DC) in the IPL. I was so happy to see the way he came back because I have always said that he is a special player,” Sourav Ganguly remarked at a corporate event.

Leading the Delhi Capitals once again, Pant had a stellar individual season, amassing 446 runs at a strike rate of 155.4 and an average of 40.55. Despite the team’s failure to reach the playoffs, Pant’s performance was a significant positive, demonstrating his resilience and skill. The Indian team management will be hopeful that Pant can carry this form into the T20 World Cup, bolstering their chances in the tournament.
Sourav Ganguly has consistently championed Pant as one of India’s premier talents, applauding the hard work and dedication that facilitated his recovery. He emphasized the importance of Pant’s contribution to the team and expressed hope that he would quickly regain his best form.
“Even earlier, I have said that he is exceptional. You don’t want such talent to be lost for such disastrous reasons (accident). He has really worked hard to get back to where he is and he is the Rishabh Pant of old,” Sourav Ganguly concluded.
