Sports freternity express their condolences for the serial blasts in Sri Lanka

A series of blasts on Sunday that struck on big hotels and churches which killed nearly 200 people and injured more than 550 people in Sri Lanka. The incident mainly happened in Colombo on Easter morning. This incident left everyone in a big shock. From India captain, Virat Kohli to tennis star Sania Mirza everyone expressed their heartfelt condolences for the affected people and their families.

However, Virat Kohli took to Twitter and wrote: “Shocked to hear the news coming in from Sri Lanka. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragedy. #PrayForSriLanka.”

The batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar also shared his condolence through Twitter and wrote: “Saddened to hear about the terror attacks in various parts of Sri Lanka. Strongly condemn these acts of terror. Hatred and violence will never overpower love, kindness and compassion. #SriLanka”

Rohit Sharma also shared: “Thoughts and prayers with Sri Lanka. Such a beautiful country.”

India Women’s ODI Team Captain Mithali Raj also tweeted: “Minutes after my Easter wishes, horrific news comes from Sri Lanka. Over 700 dead & injured. Shocked, angered, hurt. It’s a time of bereavement for us all. A time of pain, introspection.A time to rise above such targeted hate. Many many prayers for families uprooted, souls departed”

Along with the cricketers, famous tennis player, Sania Mirza also expressed her condolence and prayed for everyone. “What is happening to this world???? May God help us all.. really.. #SriLanka,” she shared

Former India cricketer VVS Laxman shared that he was “saddened” by the news. “Deeply saddened by the terrible attacks in #SriLanka. My sincere prayers with the people of Sri Lanka in this very difficult time,” Laxman wrote on Twitter.

The blasts which hit many luxury hotels and a church in Colombo happened at around 8:45 am local time. However, the first blast happened at St Anthony’s Church in Colombo and St Sebastian’s Church at Katuwapitiya in Negombo. Soon after that, four other blasts also happened which were later confirmed by the police. Meanwhile, three of those blasts were at hotels and another one happened in a church in the town of Batticaloa.
