Trevor Bayliss and Andy Flower, the head coaches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) respectively, have left their positions. According to the reports of Cricbuzz can confirm that both are the former England coaches now linked to the new Lucknow franchise.
As per the quotes in Cribcuzz, PBKS co-owner, Ness Wadia said, “It is correct, Andy has left Punjab Kings. He wanted to explore other opportunities and we respect that.” Wadia, however, said the Zimbabweans will continue to be the head coach of their Caribbean Premier League team, St Lucia Zouks. The flower was the head coach under Anil Kumble.

The Sunrishers Hyderabad management has also confirmed that they are looking for a new coach as Bayliss has bid adieu to the franchise. The reports also revealed that Bayliss is still on Cricket Australia’s radar but the 58-year old is believed to be in talks with a few other IPL teams. He had previously led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL titles – in 2012 and 2014 – before accepting an offer from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Talking about the same, one of the SRH officials said, “He has moved on and we’ll announce the new coach soon.” Bayliss took over the Hyderabad team immediately after leading the English team to win the 2019 World Cup. But he had moderate success with the Surnrisers – having finished third once (in 2020). In 2021, the team finished at the bottom.

Sources of Cricbuzz have indicated that apart from Gary Kirsten, the Lucknow team has also got in touch with Daniel Vettori, the former New Zealand captain who had also briefly coached an IPL squad – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). One of the four is likely to take over the new team.
With KL Rahul also tipped to head to the Lucknow franchise, there could be a reunion of the Rahul-Flower duo.
