If the plannings of Star India goes well, then the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) could introduce Virtual Reality to the cash-rich league. VR is the emerging trend in the world of technology and hence, if the broadcasters manage to pull it off for the biggest T20 tournament, then it could well be a historic first in the sport.
As per the recent reports in IndianTelevision.com, the Star India is looking forward to pressing for the same. The broadcaster, in association with OTT service provider Hotstar, is finding ways to make use of Virtual Reality in the IPL next year.
This will improve the viewing experience of the fans for the IPL. The announcements about the same were made at ’10 Media Transformations for 2018 and Beyond’ session at the CII Big Picture Summit 2017.
According to the reports, the VR headsets will be given out to the random viewers at the venues. Also, some selected Hotstar subscribers would also be given these headsets to enjoy the action in a unique way. Besides that, the organizers are also considering the opportunity to tie up with a brand that would supply these headsets. For now, viewers can expect some big changes coming in the viewership experience in the IPL 2018.
