Former Australia captain, Steve Waugh has asserted that the Border-Gavaskar trophy, which is a Test series between Australia and India is nowhere less than the Ashes series as both the series imposes a humongous challenge for the players of both the cricket playing nations. Whereas, Ashes series is played between arch-rivals England and Australia.
During a virtual interaction while his participation in India global week 2020, Waugh said, “The Border-Gavaskar trophy is equivalent to the Ashes. Shows the growing competition between the two countries. Tied Test is the greatest game I have ever played. Calcutta Test loss was memorable.Â

Expressing his love for India, Waugh said that he toured the nation for more than a decade. He always felt fascinating whenever he looked out of the window as he started falling in love with the place. 1999 World Cup-winning captain is planning to launch a book in which he is going to express his thoughts on why cricket is considered as a religion in India.
Talking about the same, Steve Waugh said, “Producing this book could bring India and Australia together. We are about to finalize the book. People can go to stevewaugh.com. You see amazing things about India its diversity and passion for cricket. I want to produce a book that will surprise people about India – through pictures – showcase India and that’s my latest project. Trying to capture why cricket is a religion in India.”
Waugh has been taking part in India global week 2020 where he talked about sports diplomacy.

The much-anticipated four-match Test series between India and Australia is scheduled to be takin place in December this year, with the second Test between the two teams will played as a day-night affair in Adelaide, starting from December 11. The first Test is scheduled to start from December 3 while the third and fourth Tests will begin on December 26 and January 3 respectively.
