Delhi Capitals faced a formidable challenge against Sunrisers Hyderabad, as the latter posted a daunting total of 266 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Despite winning the toss and opting to bowl first, DC’s bowlers struggled to contain the SRH batters, allowing them to pile on the runs.

The disappointment was palpable in DC’s camp as they fell short in their chase, managing only 199 runs. Captain Rishabh Pant expressed his frustration during the post-match presentation, acknowledging the crucial role of the powerplay in setting the tone of the game.

“The only thought process behind the toss was the dew which didn’t come. If we restricted them to 220-230, we still would have had a chance. Powerplay was the difference. They got around 120-130, and we were just catching up throughout the match. That was the massive difference,” Rishabh Pant reflected on the outcome.

Despite the setback, there was a moment of encouragement for Rishabh Pant when former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stepped in to lift his spirits. Gavaskar emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive attitude in the face of defeat, reminding Pant that the tournament is long and there are ample opportunities for redemption.

“I never want your head down, there are lots of games so keep a smile always,” reassured Sunil Gavaskar, to which Pant responded with determination, “I will try my best, sir.”

Delhi Capitals showed glimpses of brilliance during their chase, with Prithvi Shaw’s explosive start and Jake Fraser-McGurk’s record-breaking fifty providing some hope. However, once McGurk departed, the team struggled to maintain momentum, ultimately falling short of the target.

“It stopped more in the 2nd innings than we anticipated. When you have such a big score to defend, it gives the bowlers confidence. We had a pretty good chance with 220-230 to chase. Hopefully, we will come back better with a clear mindset,” Rishabh Pant reflected on the challenges faced during the chase.
