Sunrisers Hyderabad once again showcased their aggressive batting intent in IPL 2026, making a strong start despite the early dismissal of Abhishek Sharma. The in-form opener’s departure did little to slow them down initially, as Travis Head rediscovered his rhythm with a blistering half-century, putting the bowlers under immediate pressure.

However, the turning point came when Varun Chakravarthy removed Head just as he looked set for a bigger score. That wicket triggered a dramatic collapse, with SRH losing six wickets in quick succession during the middle overs. The momentum shift was swift and decisive, largely driven by the spin duo of Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, who combined to pick up five wickets while tightening the scoring rate.

Sunil Narine, in particular, etched his name into IPL history with a landmark achievement. The mystery spinner dismissed Salil Arora with a classic delivery that clipped the top of off stump, bringing up his 200th IPL wicket. In doing so, he became the first player to reach that milestone while representing a single franchise—Kolkata Knight Riders—a testament to his longevity and consistency.

The milestone moment came in Narine’s final over, where he wasted no time in making an impact. Arora had no answer to the subtle movement off the surface, underlining Narine’s enduring effectiveness even in an era dominated by aggressive batting. He wasn’t done yet either. On the final ball of his spell, Narine outfoxed Ishan Kishan, who charged down the track only to mistime his shot. The ball ballooned into the air, allowing a straightforward catch to seal another crucial wicket.

KKR’s spinners dominated the middle phase, conceding fewer than 60 runs while dismantling a dangerous batting lineup. This was particularly significant given SRH’s reputation for thriving in these overs, with players like Heinrich Klaasen and Kishan often dictating terms.

Adding to SRH’s woes, Rovman Powell had earlier produced a stunning catch to dismiss Klaasen, further denting their momentum. Chakravarthy finished with three wickets after recovering from an expensive start, while Narine’s late burst ensured KKR stayed firmly in control.

Even Anukul Roy chipped in with a key breakthrough, dismissing captain Pat Cummins with a sharp return catch after being hit for a six. In the end, it was a clinical middle-overs performance from KKR that turned the game on its head, proving once again that quality spin can still dictate terms in modern T20 cricket.
