The Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun Group, which backs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has taken an unusual step in the middle of a tough IPL 2025 campaign. With their playoff hopes fading, the management sent players and support staff on a brief vacation to help them recharge mentally and regroup for the final stretch. After nine matches, Hyderabad sit eighth on the points table with just three wins.

This refreshing break was planned after SRH finally snapped their losing streak with a crucial five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. Following the victory, the players and support staff headed to the Maldives. Reports suggest they may travel straight to Ahmedabad from there, gearing up for their next clash against the Gujarat Titans on May 2.

In their last outing, Hyderabad ended their Chepauk jinx, bowling out Chennai for 154 before chasing it down in 19.1 overs. Harshal Patel starred with the ball, expertly using the slow Chepauk surface to return figures of 4/28. His clever variations, including the slower ball and knuckle deliveries, proved too good for a struggling CSK batting unit.

The chase, however, wasn’t straightforward. Despite favourable dew conditions, SRH made hard work of the modest target. Ishan Kishan, after a poor outing against the Mumbai Indians, showed maturity with a composed 44 off 34 balls. Later, Kamindu Mendis (32* off 22) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19* off 13) held their nerves, stitching together an unbeaten 49-run partnership to guide Hyderabad home.

With six points from nine games, SRH’s playoff chances now hang by a slender thread. They must win all five of their remaining matches — and by significant margins — to finish on 16 points and stay in contention. The Maldives trip might just be the reset they need to mount a desperate late charge.
