The veteran Indian cricketer, Suresh Raina reckons that limited-overs deputy skipper, Rohit Sharma can be next MS Dhoni of the Indian Cricket as he thinks everyone is a captain. Raina played some crucial knocks during Dhoni’s leadership tenure and has also been playing under the captaincy of MS for the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the last 12 seasons.
Raina described Rohit’s captaincy as the one who backs youngs players and listens to everyone in the dressing room. During a chat on The Super Over Podcast, Raina said, “I would say he is the next MS Dhoni for the Indian cricket team. I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time, he gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all.”

He further elaborated, “He thinks everyone is a captain. I have played under him when we won the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Around him, players enjoy the intensity, they enjoy his aura. I think when you enjoy the aura of a player, you like to be positive and I think that is what he is good at.”
Suresh Raina also said that since both Dhoni and Rohit possess similar kinds of abilities, they are both “wonderful” skippers in his book.
Notably, Rohit surpassed Dhoni to become the most successful skipper in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he led Mumbai Indians (MI) to their 4th triumphant campaign in 2019. In fact, Rohit led MI to a win over Dhoni-led CSK in a nail-biting final.

Explaining the same, Raina said, “He is one of the top-most, after MS Dhoni, who was brilliant. He has won more [IPL] trophies than MS, but I would say they both are very similar. Both of them, as a captain, like to listen. When your captain is listening, you can solve a lot of problems, you can solve the mental problems of the players. So in my book, they both are wonderful.”
