Suryakumar Yadav may no longer be part of India’s current T20I setup, but the stylish right-hander is clearly not taking the setback lightly. Determined to push his way back into contention, the former India captain has been grinding hard in the nets and sharing glimpses of his work ethic on social media.
Just hours after India completed a 3-0 clean sweep of Zimbabwe in the T20I series, Suryakumar posted a training clip from the Vasoo Paranjape Cricket Academy. The video showed him running hard and batting for an extended session, underlining the intensity of his preparation.
Along with the clip, he wrote: “Sunday was fun. Quick run. Batted around 1000 balls for 3 hours. Felt good.” The message reflected both his discipline and his eagerness to stay in rhythm ahead of his comeback push.

Suryakumar was a central figure in India’s T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year, but the selectors made a bold call soon after, choosing to move on from him in the shortest format and appointing a new captain in Shreyas Iyer. The decision surprised many, especially after his leadership role in India’s title-winning campaign, but the move was made with an eye on the next phase of India’s T20 planning.

The main concern around Suryakumar has been his batting form, which had dipped in recent months. His returns in IPL 2026 were underwhelming by his own high standards, and that played a major role in the selection committee’s rethink. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar later explained that the decision was not easy, but it was shaped by both current form and a long-term roadmap leading to the next T20 World Cup and the return of cricket at the LA Olympics in 2028.

“With regards to Surya, obviously, it’s a tough one… having just won the World Cup,” Agarkar said. “Partly his own form, but also looking at the next two-year cycle or a little more than two years now till the next World Cup, we thought this was the best way forward.”
