The eagerly awaited return of India’s T20I powerhouse, Suryakumar Yadav, might face a delay as he continues his recovery journey from sports hernia surgery. Reports suggest that the explosive batter could sit out a few more matches in the ongoing IPL season as he focuses on regaining full fitness under the watchful eye of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Although Suryakumar Yadav’s absence has been felt by Mumbai Indians (MI), there’s optimism surrounding his progress. According to a BCCI source, Yadav is showing promising signs of recovery and is expected to make a comeback for MI soon. However, the cautious approach is aimed at ensuring his readiness for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies later this year.
“While MI eagerly awaits Yadav’s return, the priority for the BCCI remains his fitness for the World T20. His absence is noticeable as MI faced defeats in their initial matches against the Gujarat Titans and the Sunrisers Hyderabad,” the source highlighted.

MI’s struggles in Suryakumar Yadav’s absence have been evident, with the team losing both of their opening matches. The defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad saw the hosts posting a mammoth total, setting a new record for the highest team score in T20 history. Despite a valiant effort in the chase, MI fell short, underlining Yadav’s importance to the squad.

Suryakumar Yadav’s stature in T20 cricket has soared in recent years, with his aggressive batting style and consistent performances earning him accolades. His impressive record in the shortest format reflects his prowess, with 2141 runs in 60 matches at an astounding average of 45.55 and a blistering strike rate of 171.55.
