India produced their most explosive start in T20I history during their fifth match against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s breathtaking knock, the hosts raced to their fastest-ever 100 in the format, putting them in complete control of the contest.

India lost an early wicket through Sanju Samson, and after that was pure carnage. Abhishek Sharma unleashed on the Englishmen with ferocious strokeplay to turn the game on its head. Abhishek batted his way to a marvelous 37-ball hundred as Wankhede was turned on its head with excitement. For most of India’s batting brigade, though, the party failed to get rolling – especially, of course, the skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar continued to struggle as he could score merely 28 runs during the five-match series, making it the second-lowest return of an Indian batsman in a T20I series. In this match, his short-term poor form continued. While trying to play a shot down the leg side, he mistimed his blow, and the ball ballooned up, allowing Phil Salt to pick up an easy catch.

His dismissal off the second ball of the 11th over made him quite frustrated, though. It said much about how things had not been going great for him till now. Not that SKY’s failure halted the Indian charge of batting altogether; Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube did hit a couple of 20+ cameos while scoring at the rate without slackening Abhishek’s frenzied blitz.
