It’s not always wise to indulge into insult humor. Surely not when you plan to include Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar, two of the biggest icons of India. While Sachin Tendulkar is no less than an emotion and ego for millions of people, Lata Mangeshkar, nightingale as they lovingly call her, is one of the most admired, loved and respected singers in the history of Indian Cinema. The two global superstars probably are the biggest and the most loved in the Country.
Back in May 2016, Tanmay Bhat, a pivotal part of the AIB Team, known for their humorous online videos, came up with a Snapchat video wherein he merged the faces of Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar in his own face using Swap faces, a famous feature on the Snapchat, a social network, that allows you to merge and mix faces for fun. Doing so, Bhat churned out an imaginary conversation between the legendary batsman and the mesmerizing senior singer, wherein, the two hurl insults at each other. A jealous Sachin Tendulkar is also portrayed as being unable to digest Virat Kohli’s red-hot form and subsequent comparisons with himself. This sparked off a national controversy and fans of the legends came out abusing and slamming the AIB comedian. As far as our opinion is concerned, even we believed Bhat had taken things too far. Even if Tendulkar and Mangeshkar weren’t the superstars they are, it was inappropriate on Bhat’s side to indulge into insult humor, especially considering the fact that he didn’t take their permission.
Bhat was slammed by one and all, even by a host of Bollywood stars and experts for doing what he did. The whole issue reached a crescendo when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, the Raj Thackeray-led political party gave Bhat a death threat. Having maintained stoic silence throughout the whole ordeal, Bhat has finally spoken up on the issue and has chosen to apologize to the Master Batsman. And what better day to so so than on the legend’s Birthday!
