According to the recent reports, a well-known television company has told the BCCI that it is “difficult for it to prepare” for the upcoming e-auction of the media rights for home internationals and domestic matches, which is scheduled to take place on April 3. The sports broadcaster has expressed its strong views only after the BCCI extended the deadline for submission of bid documents to 10 a.m. on April 3 and said that the result of the e-auction will also be announced on the same day at 2 p.m.

During a recent interaction with BCCI, the television company rumored to be Sony Pictures Network (SPN) India, has said: “These last-minute changes on the bid documentation and the online bid is making it difficult for us to prepare for the bid on 3rd April. As you know, there are a lot of calculations and modeling that goes into a bid preparation and these last-minute changes create so much uncertainty.”

He further added, “One issue that is particularly of concern is regarding tri-series in India [to be] organized by the BCCI. This means an India-Afghanistan-Bangladesh or an India-Bangladesh-Zimbabwe [series] will be valued equally with an India-Australia-South Africa.”

“This quite frankly is illogical. Advertisers and even the viewing public do not value these matches equally and for the BCCI to consider all of them as having the same value does injustice to bidders. We would earnestly request BCCI to reconsider.”

However, as the reports suggest, SPN failed to attend the demo auction that had been scheduled for March 29 and 30. It’s understood that Star India has also voiced its concern over the change in several aspects of the e-auction.

Star India, in a separate communication to the BCCI CEO and the CoA, has pointed out an anomaly saying, “the requirement that the bidder attribute the same Per Match Value (PMV) to matches that do not involve the senior Indian men’s team will have a further adverse impact on commercial valuation.”
