Team Chennai has been dominating all the teams in the IPL despite facing major injury blows. They lost Mitchell Santner due to injury, Kedar Jadhav to injury after his heroic knock and even Suresh Raina missed out a few matches. One more blow that fell on Chennai was that of the medium pace bowler Deepak Chahar.
Playing this year for the Chennai franchise, Deepak Chahar suffered a hamstring strain during a match against the Mumbai Indians at the MCA Stadium in Pune on April 28. After the injury, he was ruled out for a couple of weeks. Nevertheless, he has been seen practicing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur where CSK will play their next match against Rajasthan Royals.
In a bowling attack that had no senior fast bowler, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur had to step up in the role of the spearhead of the bowling attack. Chahar played in seven matches this season and picked up six wickets, His best bowling figures of 3/15 came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Hyderabad. The spell helped Chennai register a win over the strongest team in the IPL.
Return of Deepak Chahar is expected to give a massive boost to the bowling lineup of CSK as he has been able to provide breakthroughs with the new ball. He has mostly been bowling in the powerplay overs and he hasn’t disappointed MS Dhoni and his franchise one bit. Chahar’s comeback will CSK in their bowling department on tracks which has nothing for bowlers.
Incidentally, the team against which Chahar will be making his return is his old franchise and the current first-class team. He came into the limelight with his stunning spell of 8/10 in 2010/11 Ranji Trophy season. Before this IPL season, Chahar had played only five matches in which he had managed to pick up only one wicket. This season, he has already taken six.
Chennai Super Kings are currently on the second spot in the IPL points table and with seven wins already in their account from 10 matches, they need just one more win to make sure that they get to the playoffs.
