Team India is currently playing the historic Day-Night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. It is the first-ever pink-ball match for both the teams. The inauguration of the landmark game was attended by quite a few celebrities. But, the player that hogged the spotlight on Day 1 of the second Test was the Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma.
In the first couple of overs, Ishant found it difficult to get used to the pink ball but when he came in his second spell, the Bangladesh batsmen were found wanting and started giving away wickets. He bowled at his best on the first day of the game. The Bangladeshi Tigers were expected to give some good performances following their defeat in Indore but that was not the case.
However, the visitors had a solid start as they didn’t lose a single wicket in the first seven overs. However, Ishant Sharma took his first wicket of Imrul Kayes and helped the hosts to get their first breakthrough of the day. At that moment, nobody thought that Ishant would end up getting a five-wicket haul.

The second dismissal of Ishant came in the 19th over of the match when Wriddhiman Saha took an amazing catch of Mahmudullah behind the wickets diving to his right. It was then followed by the wickets of Nayeem Hassan, Ebadat Hossain, who got bowled out on astonishing deliveries. And, his wait to take his first five-wicket haul since 2007 at home came to an end when Cheteshwar Pujara took a brilliant catch at short mid-wicket off Mehidy Hasan.

Ishant ended up registering some amazing bowling figures of 12-4-22-5 towards the end of Bangladesh innings. It was Ishant’s 10th five-wicket haul of his Test career as India bundled out Bangladesh for a meager total of 106 on the opening day of the historic second Test in Kolkata. He also became the first Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the pink-ball match.
The Tigers were left skittled in front of the pacers and were finding it way too difficult to adjust with the behavior of the pink ball. In the whole innings of Bangladesh, only one over was bowled by a spinner and it was none other than, Ravindra Jadeja. Also, Umesh Yadav finished with 3 for 29 in seven overs and Mohammed Shami 2 for 36.

That was just his second Test & the inaugural IPL was still four months away. #INDvBAN

The rise and fall and rise of #IshantSharma has to be one of the top Indian cricket stories of this decade. Still rememeber him from that 2008 Perth test when he made Ricky Ponting sh** in his👖 Cut to 2018-19, and Ishant's been at his ruthless best again! #PinkBall #INDvsBAN
