The fiery fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, Umran Malik made his IPL debut in the 2021 season and immediately grabbed a lot of limelight with his fierce pace as he was seen surprising the batters. He played just three games in the entire season and picked two wickets yet Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained him along with captain Kane Williamson and Abdul Samad.
Clearly, SRH saw great potential in the ability of Umrain Malik and wanted to explore and make use of it more in the coming seasons. In the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, SRH also bought in-form hard-hitting batter Nicholas Pooran. The West Indian seems to be enjoying a purple patch in his is in a cracking touch lately and had a fantastic limited-overs tour to India in February 2022, where he smashed three half-centuries in all three T20Is.

While Pooran is the key player for SRH in the batting department, Umran will have more responsibility with him this season with the ball. In the practice match of SRH, Umran Malik was up against Nicholas Pooran. Whenever Malik bowled a fuller-length delivery, Pooran easily guided the ball wherever he wanted. However, Malik upped his speed and pulled the length back to short, and got immediate results.
The first ball was nearly 155 kmph fast and short. Pooran couldn’t do anything about it and even got unbalanced trying to play the ball. On the next short ball, Pooran tried to pull but couldn’t time it properly and got caught.

Umran Malik’s bowling speed and his ability to bounce out a batter like Nicholas Pooran are some positive signs for Sunrisers Hyderabad camp and bowling coach Dale Steyn.
