3. Usman Khawaja (Australia) 141 – against Pakistan at Dubai (DSC)
While the Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja had a poor reputation as a batsman on the Asian soil, he broke that myth by playing a match-saving knock of 141 runs against Pakistan at Dubai (DSC) and that too in the fourth innings of a Test match (Test started on 7 October).
Earlier in that series opener, Pakistan scored 482 runs in their first innings after winning the toss, thanks to the centuries from opener Mohammed Hafeez (126) and the no.4 batsman Haris Sohail (110).
In reply, Australia was bundled out on 202 runs despite their 142 runs opening partnership between Usman Khawaja and the Test debutant Aaron Finch. While Khawaja (85) was the highest scorer in that innings, Finch was the second highest scorer in that innings.
In their second innings, Pakistan declared 181/6 as they had set the target of a mammoth 462 runs. At the end of the day four that Test match, Australia was struggling on 136/3 while Khawaja was batting on 50 runs.
On day five of that Test match, Khawaja spent around two and a half session before losing his wicket finally on 141 runs off 302 balls (11 fours). During that time, Khawaja had a lengthy 132-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Travis Head and 79 runs partnership for the sixth wicket with the skipper Tim Paine. Paine (61*) played an important role at the end with Nathan Lyon (5*) as Australia saved that game after ending the day on 362/8. In that incredible draw Test match, Khawaja won the Player of the Match award.
