Unmukt Chand Decides To Play In Foreign League, Retires From Indian Cricket

India’s former U-19 World Cup-winning skipper, Unmukt Chand has now decided to play in the foreign leagues and announced his retirement from Indian cricket. He led the junior team to win the coveted trophy way back in 2012. Unmukt Chand has retired from Indian cricket. Former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand made the announcement of his retirement on Friday.

The former U-19 captain took to Twitter to share a long note, in which he went on to confirm that he is retiring from Indian cricket but is open to taking opportunities around the world.

Unmukt, who led the junior team to a World Cup victory in 2012, and ever since he was one of the regular members of the India A teams after his heroics in the final. He also took over as India A captain and held the position till 2015. Unmukt’s heroics in domestic cricket and for India A saw him making it to the 30-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Apart from that, he was also shortlisted for the 30-member for the 2014 T20 World Cup but never managed to get an India call-up.

Chand had started his domestic career while playing for India’s capitals, Delhi in 2010 and went on to play for the team for 8 seasons. Unmukt Chand, who also captained his state team, was dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in 2017 and became an irregular member of the team owing to his inconsistent performances.

Unmukt Chand then decided to play for Uttarakhand in 2019 but the move didn’t work and he moved back to Delhi. Chand finishes his ‘Indian cricket’ career with a tally of 3379 runs in first-class cricket, 4505 runs in List A cricket, and 1565 runs in T20s.

During IPL 2013 season, when Unmukt Chand was seen playing for Delhi Daredevils, Brett Lee castled Unmukt Chand’s off-stump in the very first ball of the over. Since then, the fans never saw the best of Unmukt Chand. Here is the video of the same:
