India had a worrying moment in the field during the Asian Games 2026 gold medal match against Pakistan when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ravi Bishnoi narrowly avoided a collision at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Saturday, October 3. The incident occurred in the ninth over of Pakistan’s chase, with Abhishek Sharma bowling to Hasan Nawaz. The Pakistan batter attempted to hit the ball straight down the ground but mistimed his shot completely, sending it high into the air and giving India a chance to take another wicket.

Sooryavanshi, who had earlier scored 15 off nine balls before being dismissed by Saim Ayub, sprinted in from long-off to get underneath the ball. At the same time, Bishnoi ran across from long-on as both Indian fielders converged on the same chance.
The 15-year-old reached the ball first and initially appeared to have it under control. However, Bishnoi was closing in rapidly, resulting in slight contact between the two fielders. The impact caused Sooryavanshi to lose control of the catch, allowing the ball to spill out of his hands.

Hasan Nawaz survived the scare and managed to run two runs from the delivery. The missed opportunity briefly frustrated India, but the bigger concern was whether the two fielders had suffered any injury.

Thankfully, both Sooryavanshi and Bishnoi avoided a serious collision and were able to continue. The moment provided a major relief for the Indian camp, particularly given Sooryavanshi’s young age and the speed at which both players were approaching the ball.

The incident came during a high-pressure final that had already produced several talking points. Saim Ayub had earlier celebrated Sooryavanshi’s dismissal with a baby cradle gesture, while Ishan Kishan was involved in a heated exchange with Pakistan players after his dismissal. India, having posted 211/6, were looking to make further inroads into Pakistan’s chase when the fielding mix-up handed Hasan Nawaz a reprieve.
