It’s hard to believe that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the boy who holds the record for the second-fastest century in IPL history, is only 14 years old — and it seems even his teammates can’t resist teasing him about it. A lighthearted video featuring Sooryavanshi being playfully trolled by his India ‘A’ teammates, Yudhvir Singh Charak and Gurjapneet Singh, ahead of the ACC T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup, has gone viral on social media.

The video, originally shared on Gurjapneet’s Snapchat, shows Yudhvir, 28, asking who between the two looks older. Without hesitation, the Chennai Super Kings pacer pointed at Sooryavanshi. The teenage batting sensation, maintaining his composure, simply replied with a cheeky, “No comments.”

The banter didn’t stop there. Yudhvir and Gurjapneet, both twice Sooryavanshi’s age, teased him further about his hairstyle and hair gel use. The youngster laughed off the jibes, swearing on his mother that he didn’t use any — a moment that had fans in splits online.

Ever since Rajasthan Royals signed Sooryavanshi at just 13 ahead of IPL 2024, questions about his age have occasionally surfaced. While age fraud remains a recurring concern in Indian cricket, Sooryavanshi’s story has stood up to scrutiny. His family and coaches publicly shared his birth certificate, and the BCCI reportedly conducted thorough background checks before validating his eligibility.

What makes Sooryavanshi’s rise even more remarkable is his cricketing maturity. To be considered for India ‘A’ at just 14 — skipping the Under-19 pathway — highlights the BCCI’s belief in his exceptional talent.

A senior board official even remarked that Sooryavanshi is “knocking on the doors of the senior Indian team.” If his current trajectory continues, the teenage prodigy could soon rewrite cricketing history by becoming the youngest-ever to don the India jersey.
