Rajasthan Royals began their IPL 2026 campaign in dominant fashion, outclassing Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Despite a new season and fresh combinations, CSK’s familiar struggles resurfaced, while Rajasthan executed their plans with precision. Captain Riyan Parag made the right call at the toss, opting to bowl under helpful overhead conditions. His bowlers responded brilliantly, restricting CSK to just 127.

Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger set the tone early, exploiting movement off the surface to dismantle the top order. Burger removed Sanju Samson, while Archer cleaned up Ruturaj Gaikwad. The pressure continued as CSK slipped to 57/6, with Ravindra Jadeja striking twice in quick succession.

A late effort from Jamie Overton, who scored 43, helped CSK cross 120, but the total was never going to be enough. Rajasthan’s bowling unit, including debutant Brijesh Sharma, maintained discipline throughout, ensuring Chennai never built momentum. In response, RR made light work of the chase, thanks to a stunning innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The young batter turned the game into a spectacle with a blistering 52 off just 17 balls, including a 15-ball half-century that completely shifted momentum. His fearless strokeplay in the powerplay left CSK with no answers. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a composed supporting role, while Sooryavanshi took charge, smashing boundaries at will. Even an early dropped chance proved costly, as he capitalised immediately, accelerating the chase beyond reach.

Although CSK managed to dismiss Sooryavanshi, the damage was already done. Parag and Jaiswal calmly finished the chase with nearly eight overs to spare, underlining Rajasthan’s dominance.

For CSK, it was a worrying start. Their bowlers struggled to contain runs, and missed opportunities in the field compounded the problem. While Anshul Kamboj and Khaleel Ahmed showed glimpses of promise, the overall performance lacked cohesion.

Rajasthan, on the other hand, continued their strong record against CSK, registering yet another convincing win. For Chennai, early questions around batting stability and execution have resurfaced, making this a challenging start to IPL 2026.
