In the previous edition, Iyer amassed 404 runs, including two half-centuries and a memorable maiden IPL century. However, his initial outing in IPL 2024 saw him fall cheaply for just 7 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens.

Determined to make amends, Iyer unleashed his batting prowess in the subsequent match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. His standout moment came in the ninth over when he launched Mayank Dagar for a towering six, registering the longest hit of the tournament thus far—a colossal 106-meter strike.

Buoyed by this momentum, Iyer continued to dominate the opposition bowling attack. He followed up with a flurry of boundaries in the 11th over, smashing two sixes and two fours off Alzarri Joseph’s bowling. Currently, Iyer stands firm at 40 runs off 23 balls, featuring three sixes and three fours in his innings.

As Kolkata Knight Riders had to chase a target of 183 runs, they find themselves at 186 for 3 in the 17th over. The opening pair of Sunil Narine and Phil Salt provided a blazing start, stitching together an impressive 86-run partnership before Narine departed after a quickfire 47 off 22 balls, followed by Salt’s dismissal for 30.
