Vijay Shankar Recalls Fans Bullying Before WC Clash Against Pakistan

The Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar on Thursday revealed that one day before the hight anticipated match between India and Pakistan in Manchester, a Pakistani fan tried to rile up him and his teammates. During his conversation on Bharat Army podcast, Shankar recalled that he had gone out with some of the Indian cricketers just the day before the match and some Pakistani fans came and started abusing them.

During a chat on Bharat Army Podcast, Vijay Shankar said, “Few of us players had gone out for coffee one day before the game when a Pakistan fan came up to us and he was literally abusing us. So that was my first experience of an India-Pakistan game. We just had to take it. He was abusing us and recording everything, so we couldn’t react. All we could do was sit and watch what he was doing.”

In his career so far, Shankar have played just 12 ODIs and 9 T20Is for India, but he did manage to make a mark for himself  on his World Cup debut game against Pakistan in Manchester last year.

On the podcast, the all-rounder, explained, “So one day before the game, they told me, be prepared, you’ll be playing. And I was like, ‘OK.'”

Shankar, who was included in playing XI as a replacement of injured Shikhar Dhawan made a decent contribution with the bat, scoring a run-a-ball 15 runs as India posted a mammoth total of 336 for 5 in 50 overs.

In the marque clash held on June 16, Shankar made the record of becoming the third bowler in the history of the ODI World Cup to scalp a wicket off the very first ball. He was completing the pending over of bhuvneshwar Kumar who injured in his third over itself.
