There have been a plethora of rumors regarding the next head coach of the Indian team as the tenure of the current coach Ravi Shastri will be ending after the T20 World Cup this year. Former Indian skipper, Rahul Dravid doesn’t seem to be taking the pace as he will be expected to retain the position of National Cricket Academy (NCA) director. In such a situation, current batting coach Vikram Rathore appears to be in the lead to become the head coach of Team India.
The current Indian coach, Ravi Shastri’s tenure is up to the October-November T20 World Cup and he has already mentioned that he has no intention of continuing with the position. As Shastri’s replacement, Rahul Dravid has often been touted as an ideal candidate but now his chances are negligible.
Former Team Indian skipper, Rahul Dravid is currently the director of the National Cricket Academy and his first term at the position will be ending soon and BCCI has also released application forms for the post of the new director. Rahul Dravid has applied to become the NCA director again.
This shows that Rahul Dravid is looking to retain his position as the NCA director, however, in such a situation, current batting coach Vikram Rathour can be considered as the frontrunner to seal the spot. Rathore is considered close to Shastri and also shares a good relationship with captain Virat Kohli.
Vikram Rathour has been associated with Team India for the last couple of years. His relationship with the team is good and if he becomes the next coach of Team India, there will be great coordination. The BCCI, however, has yet to give a clear idea on who will become Team India’s next coach.
