On the first day of the ongoing Chennai Test, fans were enthralled after watching two of the greatest cricketers of the era – Virat Kohli and Joe Root find time to chat with each other during an intense battle at the Chepauk. The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli and his England counterpart were seen talking to each other for around 40 seconds after the completion of an Ishant Sharma delivery in the 34th over.
Root had a smile on his face all the while as Virat talked about something which made the on-air commentators curious. In the commentary box, former English opener, Nock Knight said, “I think it’s great to see two great players who have done so much for the game. Love to know what they are talking about.”

On the other hand, former Indian spinner, Murali Kathik said, “You could see the comfort factor at the toss, just before the toss, the way they were conversing and they were just comfortable around each other. Yes, you are competitors, you are actually vying for the same spot as because you are gun batsmen, just that friendship and that easiness about everything. That’s what stands out in international cricket.”
Joe Root, who made his Test debut against India in 2012, is playing in his 100th Test. He has continued his good form from the Sri Lanka tour and managed to score his 20th Test hundred on the occasion of his 100th Test. Along with opener Dom Sibley, Root has taken England’s score past 200 for the loss of just 2 wickets.

Later in the day, the English skipper was seen getting some cramps by the time the penultimate over of the day was getting bowled. Towards the end of the day, he slog-swept Ravichandran Ashwin and soon fell down with agony. Virat Kohli soon rushed to his counterpart and immediately started helping Root to stretch his legs which gave the latter some relief. Soon after King Kohli was lauded on social media for showing sportsmanship.
