The Indian innings in the ongoing 2nd match of the 5-Test series against England at Lord’s were going all fine despite the early dismissals owing to a brilliant partnership from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. However, the hosts made a comeback into the game when Mark Wood was brought into the attack and he dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara.
Moeen Ali and Joe Root were seen troubling the Indian batsmen and soon enough Ali dismissed Rahane in a rather lame way. The pressure was slowly seeping into the batting lineup when Moeen Ali also got rid off Ravindra Jadeja shortly after. The over-shrouded clouds and the dim lights seemed to favor the England skipper.

Joe Root tactically delayed taking the new ball in order to use the old ball. Due to the loss of overs due to rain, the play was already into the 30 minutes extension. Soon after that, from the Lord’s Balcony, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli was seen signaling the batsmen to talk to the umpires about the bad light.
Rohit Sharma also joined him to signal Pant to raise the complaint to the umpire about the not so batting-friendly condition. Joe Root saw this and decided to then take the new ball which sealed the deal. However, they didn’t manage to bowl with the new ball as the umpires decided to call the day off and declared stumps, much to the relief of Indian fans.

The Indian team could not afford the loss of any more wickets as they are currently in a spot of bother with just a small lead of 154 runs. The onus will now be on Pant, who will need to bat his heart out along with the tail-ender to prolong the innings on day 5 else England’s chances will become alive in the match.
