The Delhi Premier League (DPL), which made its debut in 2024, has already made waves in India’s domestic cricket circuit. Launched under the Delhi Cricket Association, the DPL aims to provide a platform for budding talent and has successfully helped several young cricketers transition to the Indian Premier League (IPL). With its second edition on the horizon, all eyes are now on the DPL 2025 auction, slated for July 5.

What makes this year’s auction even more intriguing is the participation of the next generation of Indian cricket royalty. The names Kohli and Sehwag are set to return to the cricketing spotlight—this time in the form of their sons and nephews.
Aaryaveer Kohli, the 15-year-old nephew of Indian batting legend Virat Kohli, has registered for the auction. Interestingly, unlike his iconic uncle, Aaryaveer is a leg-spinner, currently honing his craft under Rajkumar Sharma, Virat’s childhood coach. He features in Category C, reserved for U-16 Delhi players.

Joining him in the mix are Aaryavir Sehwag and Vedant Sehwag, sons of the explosive former opener Virender Sehwag. Aaryavir is a 17-year-old top-order batter, while his younger brother Vedant, 15, is an off-spinner. Both have been slotted into Category B, which includes U-19 players under the Delhi board.

The DPL has already proven to be a breeding ground for IPL-level talent. Priyansh Arya, the flamboyant left-hander who smashed six sixes in an over during DPL 2024, was picked by Punjab Kings and scored 475 runs in his debut IPL season. Another DPL success story is Digvesh Rathi, a crafty left-arm spinner who turned heads with 14 wickets in his debut IPL campaign for Lucknow Super Giants.
The legacy of Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag also adds rich context to the rise of their kin. Kohli, a titan of Indian cricket, boasts 11,485 runs in 156 first-class matches, including 37 centuries.

Virender Sehwag, no less iconic, has amassed over 14,000 first-class runs with 42 centuries, known for redefining the role of openers in Test cricket. As the DPL 2025 auction approaches, excitement is building—not just for the talent on offer, but for the stories that could shape Indian cricket’s future. The sons and nephews of legends are no longer just names—they’re contenders.
