Now, Kohli came out once again after India clinched another victory against Kenya by 3-0 in the ongoing Hero Intercontinental Cup. It was the 100th international game for the Indian striker Sunil Chhetri who scored 2 goals in that game.

In the next day off that game, Kohli tweeted, “The last two years have been fantastic for @IndianFootball and last night again they showed that they mean business. A great 3 nil victory over Kenya. Well done champ @chetrisunil11.”

Indian football team’s latest FIFA ranking is 97 while they have lost only one game in their last 16 matches. In the ongoing Intercontinental Cup, India began the tournament with a thrashing 5-0 victory against Chinese Taipei where the skipper Chhetri scored a hat-trick.

While India has almost secured their place for the final of the tournament that will be played on this Sunday (June 10), they will have to play against New Zealand before the final (June 7).

Before the Kenya game, Kohli came to support Sunil Chhetri by posting a video message on his social media account.

In that video, Kohli said, “In support of what my good friend and Indian captain Sunil Chhetri posted sometime back, I want to request everyone to go and watch the Indian football team play. Anyone who loves any kind of sport, go and cheer for the team in the stadiums because they are working hard, they are a talented team and I have seen these players evolve and learn over the last few seasons and get so much better at their game.

“This also will go down a long way in contributing towards creating a sporting culture that is the vision for all of us in the country. And we want to be called a proud sporting nation, we need to accept and support all the sports equally. Because tomorrow you never know your children might be playing sports as well and they might need support from people coming and watching them play.

“So have compassion and think of how much it can contribute to the players and in turn contribute to the nation because they are representing our country and are very proud of that. So I want to urge everyone to go there and see them play and support all of them. Because eventually, we are all striving forward for the nation and we need to make this a collective sporting nation and your contribution will be massive. So please go and support them and watch them play. I wish them all the very best. Thank you.”
