Virat Kohli is on the verge to overtake former skipper Sourav Ganguly in the list of most Test wins for an Indian skipper. But, to achieve this feat, the Kohli-led team has to whitewash Sri Lanka again in the three-match Test series.
As of now, Ganguly stands second in this list with 21 wins under his belt in 49 matches as skipper. Meanwhile, Kohli is just near of him with 19 wins in 29 matches and a clean sweep of Lankan Lions will help him to leapfrog over Sourav. MS Dhoni is the leader of this list with 27 victories while donning Whites.
Overall, former South African skipper Graeme Smith is the skipper with most Test match wins. He has won 53 matches in 104 attempts, while Ricky Ponting is behind him on the second spot with 48 victories.
The Indian skipper is all likely to surpass Ganguly while keeping Sri Lanka’s form in the mind. Currently, Team India is on an 8-series winning streak since 2015 Sri Lanka series. Afterwards, India defeats South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Australia and Sri Lanka. They last lost a series against Australia Down Under in 2014-15.
Sri Lanka will play three matches apiece Test, ODI and T20I series with the first leg of Tests will start from November 16 in Kolkata.
