After having lost all their first six games in the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered their first win yesterday against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Mohali. Virat Kohli and AB de Villers played crucial knocks for Bangalore’s win. However, Kohli fined Rs 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate during the match. He became the third captain who was fined for the slow over-rate. Earlier, Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma and Rajasthan Royals’ captain Ajinkya Rahane was the victim of the poor run-rate.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the IPL said in a statement.

Elected to field first, Bangalore asked Punjab to bat first. Punjab openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul added 60 runs within the powerplay where Gayle only scored 48 runs. However, KL Rahul couldn’t do well and fell for 18. Even, in-form batsmen Mayank Agarwala and Sarfaraz Khan also failed to impress. They both got dismissed for 15 runs respectively. However, Gayle smashed an unbeaten 99 off 64, including 10 boundaries and 5 sixes and guided Punjab to 173 on board.

Chasing 174, Bangalore got off to a flying start. Openers Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli started off really well. However, Patel got out for 19 off 9. Then, AB de Villiers joined the party with Kohli. Both started hitting all over the park and added 85 runs before Kohli’s dismissal for 67. Later, de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis added the rest of the runs and Bangalore won the game by eight wickets with four balls to spare.
