The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper (RCB), Virat Kohli is known for surpassing milestones, and during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab in Sharjah on Thursday he added another feather to his already illustrious cap.  Kohli, who became the first player to represent a single franchise in 200 fixtures (184 in IPL and 16 in the now-defunct Champions League T20), went passed Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni (4275 runs) to become the highest run-getting as a captain in the history of the IPL. 

Before the match, Virat had amassed 4266 rin as the RCB skipper, needed just 11 runs to leapfrog MSD’s feat, which he achieved during his 39-ball 48 against KXIP in Sharjah. The Indian skipper, who had a lackluster start to this year’s IPL, has been in brilliant form in the past five matches as he has registered the scores of 48, 33*, 90*, 43, and 72* [most recent first].

However, the champion batsman wasn’t at his fluent best on a spin-aiding Sharjah track on Thursday. After having started his innings with three trademark Kohli strokes, the right-hander slowed down considerably during the middle-overs before eventually getting dismissed by Mohammed Shami.

As far as Kohli’s record-list is concerned, the 31-year-old has already become the 1st batsman to surpass the tally of 5500 IPL runs besides becoming the first Indian to rack up 9000 T20 runs in the earlier part of the season.

Virat Kohli now needs six fours and three fours to surpass the tally of 500 fours and 200 sixes in IPL cricket. As far as most runs by an IPL captain is concerned, he has 4314 runs to his name, followed by MS Dhoni (4275), Gautam Gambhir (3518), and Rohit Sharma (2909).
