India captain Virat Kohli made headlines with his prediction during the first Test against England. Despite losing the toss at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Team India bowlers did really well on Day 1. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers where he picked up 4 wickets in his 21 overs spell.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami also used the conditions well and took three wickets as well whereas Shardul Thakur took the important wicket of England captain Joe Root. While Thakur claimed 2 wickets, Mohammed Siraj took a wicket.

However, Joe Root was the top scorer for the hosts as he scored 64 off 108 balls including 11 boundaries before Shardul Thakur trapped him before the stumps. But the credit should go to Indian captain Virat Kohli, who executed his plans very well by predicting the dismissal during the 54th over of England’s innings as well.

However, the batsman initially decided to leave the ball outside the off-stump but Kohli made a perfect prediction and shared it with Rishabh Pant while standing at first slip. He said: “Out hai (He will get out now)”. Although Buttler didn’t get out on the next ball, he was dismissed in Bumrah’s next over after mistiming and got an edge behind the stumps. And, England crumbled under pressure from 138/3 to 183 (all-out) as well.

However, before the series started, Virat Kohli reckons that the Test team is definitely much better prepared for the five-Test match series against England as they have been in the country for almost two months and got acclimatized to the conditions. Compared to 2018, when India suffered a 1-4 loss due to a couple of bad sessions, the skipper feels that they are “much better prepared” this time around as they have got acclimatized with changes in the weather pattern.

Talking about the same during the pre-match press conference on the eve of the first Test, Virat Kohli said, “We are definitely much better prepared than we have been in the past. The players, who were inexperienced in 2018 are now more experienced. Yes, there will be failures but we will have enough players to raise their hands up and be counted in pressure situations.”
