The Indian team only managed to reach a total of 217 runs in their first innings of the ongoing World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton. Defending the total, India started with the pacers as expected. Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah took command of the attack. The pace and bouncy pitch also favored the Indian bowlers to push the batsmen to backfoot. Although the bowling was disciplined, Indians had to wait for very long to get a breakthrough.

The bowlers were toiling hard to draw the first blood as both Devon Conway and Tom Latham stood tall braving the deliveries with ease. This was something too much to take for our aggressive skipper, Virat Kohli. So, during the fourth over he made a sledging attempt to Latham from his rhythm. Jasprit Bumrah was bowling to him and Latham happened to misjudge a delivery.

The third delivery by Bumrah was a blinder as he delivered a half volley outside off and the batsman had shuffled off the back foot to defend it. Virat Kohli was quick to grab the opportunity and sledged at Tom Latham at him from slip cordon: “He got no idea Jas, You’re all over him buddy, You can make him up there as well, He knows he’s not getting it on the bat boys”.

Here is the video of the incident:

Virat Kohli has always been known for his passionate antics on that field and he did the same on Day 3 of the game. At the start of the 3rd day, India lost Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in quick successions. Ajinkya Rahane tried to continue steadily through his innings but fell prey to brilliant bowling from Neil Wagner.

All-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin tried to take the team back into the game as they amassed a handsome number of runs to the team’s credit. However, lack of support from the tail-enders ended India’s tale at just 217 runs. Kyle Jamieson was the pick of New Zealand bowlers as he bagged his 5 wicket haul yet again.
