Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) endured a stop-start outing with the bat against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in what turned out to be a competitive first-innings effort in IPL 2026. After DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and opted to field, RCB were immediately put under pressure with wickets falling at regular intervals.
One of the standout moments, however, came courtesy of Tim David. Promoted up the order earlier than usual, the hard-hitting batter produced a stunning straight six off Lungi Ngidi that left everyone stunned. The camera quickly panned to Virat Kohli in the dressing room, whose animated reaction perfectly captured the impact of the strike.

Despite that moment of brilliance, RCB struggled to build sustained momentum. Kohli managed just 19, while Phil Salt looked in fine touch with a fluent 63 before falling to Kuldeep Yadav. Devdutt Padikkal showed promise but couldn’t convert his start, departing for 18, while captain Rajat Patidar had an off day with just 8 runs.

In the death overs, RCB attempted to shift gears but lost wickets in clusters, which hampered their finishing surge. Tim David added a quick 26, including three boundaries and a six, before being dismissed by Axar Patel. The lower order chipped in just enough to push the total to 175 in 20 overs.

From DC’s perspective, it was a disciplined bowling display, blending control with timely breakthroughs. While 175 keeps RCB in the contest, they will feel they missed an opportunity to post a more imposing total on a batting-friendly surface.
