Former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag was baffled to see Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) deciding to send skipper, David Warner to bat in the Super Over against Delhi Capitals (DC) instead of the fiery batsman, Konny Bairstow in Match 20 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Sunday. Warner and Kane Williamson managed to score just 8 runs in the Super Over bowled by DC spinner Axar Patel. The on-field umpires then deducted one run from the total due to Warner’s one-short run.
DC batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant managed to chase down eth target quite easily in Rashid Khan’s Super Over to win their 4th game in IPL 2021 and grab the 2nd position from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on the points table.
Sehwag later questioned SRH’s tactics for not send Bairstow with Williamson, as the former had bludgeoned 38 off 18 balls in normal time. The SRH skipper, who has been out of form by his standards this season, was run out for 6 during their 160-run chase.

In his tweet, Virender Sehwag wrote: “Unless Bairstow was in toilet, can’t get why would he not be your first choice in a #SuperOver when he scored 38 of 18 in the main innings and looked the cleanest hitter. “Baffling, Hyderabad fought well but have only themselves to blame for strange decisions.”

Before the Super Over sealed SRH’s fate, it was Kane Williamson who kept his team in the game by playing an unbeaten knock of 51-ball 66, which helped them match DC’s score of 159 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Williamson and Bairstow were the only two batsmen who have some amount of dominance against the DC bowlers, especially spinners on a sluggish pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. SRH’s fourth defeat in the season saw them drop down to 7th position on the IPL 2021 points table. The 2016 champions will next face 3-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 28.
