The Indian fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj has witnessed a meteoric rise to international cricket, ever since he has made a dream debut against Australia. He has played three matches and picked up 13 wickets to finish as the most successful bowler on the Australia tour. For a long time, he was touted as the bowler for the longest format, but during IPL 2021, before it was indefinitely suspended due to the Covid-19, he has added lethal yorkers in his armory as well.
During IPL 2021, Mohammed Siraj was economical in the death-overs, picked up six wickets in seven matches, and became a go-to bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, Virat Kohli. Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman, who has watched the growth of Siraj from close quarters and he is of the opinion that the pacer has the potential to become a great international cricketer.

In an interview with Siasat.com, VVS Laxman said: “If Siraj continues to work hard over the next few years, he can be a huge name in international cricket. He certainly has all the qualities and the potential to do so.”
With Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumraha available for the selection, it will be interesting to see if Mohammed Siraj manages to find a place in the playing XI during the World test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand. Laxman’s advice to Indian skipper Virat Kohli is to bowl Siraj whenever he gets a go, in long spells.
Describing the same, VVS Laxman said, “Mohammed Siraj is a very skillful bowler. For any fast bowler, there are two essential requirements. Firstly, he must have the ability to swing the ball deceptively. Siraj has this ability in abundance. Secondly, a fast bowler has to be able to bowl long spells. This ability, too, Siraj has in him. He has tremendous stamina. He can come back for his third spell and bowl with just as much venom as he did in his first two spells.”

India will be locking horns with New Zealand for the summit clash at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton, starting from June 18. A five-match Test series against England will follow it.
