As per the recent reports of Times of India, the BCCI has agreed to the Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s request of allowing cricketers’ wives and girlfriends (WAGs) to accompany them on overseas tours. In a decision made by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), WAGs will now be allowed to travel with them on tours after the first 10 days and can stay for the remaining duration.
Recently, Virat had asked the BCCI to bring a change in the existing WAGs policy, where players’ partners could only stay with them for a period of two weeks. Before this, BCCI had maintained a no WAGs policy on tours.
In 2015, Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland had made a similar decision, despite the Kangaroos’ dismal performance in the Ashes and the criticism that WAGs led to their downfall, following it.

The point of view of CoA suggested that the CoA, the presence of WAGs can only bolster the performance of the players on long overseas tours. To see things from the player’s perspective, CoA met Kohli, Ravi Shastri, and Rohit Sharma before the start of the second Test versus West Indies in Hyderabad.
India’s next big tour is of Australia which is starting on November 21 and will continue till January 18. Kohli and his men will play three T20Is and as many ODIs and four Tests on the tour.
Virat Kohli recently led Team India to their 10th consecutive Test series win at home as they sealed a 2-0 series win over the West Indies on Sunday. Ahead of the Test series, he had been the standout batsman during India’s tour of England, scoring 593 runs in five Tests at an average of 59.30. However, his fine form could not prevent India succumbing to a 4-1 series loss.
