Pakistan cricket legend Waqar Younis has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defeat arch-rivals India in the upcoming Asia Cup matches. The two neighboring nations are set to clash in the continental tournament on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and they could potentially meet each other twice or even thrice in the competition.
Waqar drew inspiration from Pakistan’s victory over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final at The Oval. He emphasized that Pakistan has the potential to beat India anywhere if they play well and stick to their strategies in crucial encounters. Speaking at the Asia Cup trophy unveiling program in Lahore, the former fast bowler encouraged the current Pakistan team to believe in their abilities.

As per the quotes in NDTV, Waqar Younis said, “In our time, we did not win many major tournaments against India. But the good thing is that these boys have started winning against India in big matches recently. That’s a good sign. The monkey is off the back now. So, given the talent we have in our team, if we can play to our potential, I don’t see any reason why they can’t beat India. It doesn’t matter where they play.”
Waqar Younis highlighted Pakistan’s historic triumph over India at The Oval, stressing that if they can conquer them in such a high-pressure scenario, they can emerge victorious in any other venue. He further encouraged the players to adopt a fearless and aggressive approach, likening them to tigers on the field.
“In the previous edition of the Asia Cup in 2022, India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the tournament opener. Pakistan bounced back and beat India by an equal margin when the teams faced each other for the second time in the tournament.”
