The legendary Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne believes that the 31-year-old Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon needs to develop his bowling skills to become successful in the white-ball cricket.
Lyon is one of the best spinners in the present red-ball cricket. In the recently concluded four-match home Test series against the no.1 Test ranked side India, Lyon finished as the joint most wicket-taker after picking up 21 wickets in that series. During that Test series, he was hugely praised in the cricket world.

However, his recent performances in the white-ball cricket were not so impressive. In the recently concluded three-match home ODI series against India, where Lyon played the first two games before he was dropped from the last ODI at Melbourne, he failed to open his wicket column.

Observing his present performances, Warne feels that Lyon has to develop his bowling skills to achieve success in the limited-overs cricket.
Warne told Fox Cricket, “If Nathan Lyon wants to be a white ball cricketer, Twenty20 or 50-over cricket, I think he needs to develop something else. The key in Test match cricket is being patient and bowling ball after ball after ball, you can’t do that in white ball cricket, you have got to bowl different balls all the time, and Nathan Lyon has really got an off-spinner or a faster off-spinner.
“He just needs to develop a faster one or a top-spinner or something that goes the other way to be successful in this form of the game.”

Warne feels that the Australian spinners will have to take the wickets to win the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England & Wales, which is just four months away to begin. Recently, in the three-match home ODI series against India, Australian spinners took only one wicket and that was taken by Glenn Maxwell.
Warne said about this, “I think Australia have to take wickets…Australian spinners bowling, they haven’t taken any wickets and that’s what you have to do. If you’re going to win a World Cup you need spinners in those middle overs to take wickets.”

On the other hand, Warne is confident on the 26-year-old leg-spinner Adam Zampa as the Australian legend believes that Zampa can take the wickets in the middle overs of the white ball cricket.
Warne added, “I think Australia with Zampa, over the wrist spin who spins it both ways is a chance to get you in the middle overs and take wickets. He can spin the ball both ways and I like them using him.”
