Former Indian opener, Wasim Jaffer has opined that the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli needs to cut down on the shots that are leading to his dismissal more often than not. The 33-year-old Kohli has often been seen getting out while playing deliveries outside the off-stump and it was a similar dismissal on Thursday. During India’s second ODI at Lord’s on Thursday, Kohli found an outside edge and perished to left-arm pacer David Willey.
The veteran started the match with three glorious fours off Reece Topley, who won the Player of the Match for his six-wicket haul but failed to carry on.

During a recent chat on ESPNCricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said, “Virat Kohli again looked good, but teams will keep bowling there (outside off stump) all the time. He needs to understand that, especially those lengths where he can’t get runs off. Anything short, he can dab it to the third man. Anything full is fine as well. But he needs to understand which deliveries he must leave.”
When England got the wicket of Kohli, India was reeling at 31 for four after being asked to chase down 247. Jaffer sounded worried and said that after a string of low scores, the former Indian skipper would be under pressure to get a substantial score under his belt.
Elaborating the same Wasim Jaffer said, “Every innings is going to pile up pressure on him and probably put doubts in him as well. People keep reminding him. I am sure it adds up on him. If he had played those T20s, he would have been in touch. I don’t know if this break will help him. Next innings will be very crucial for him.”
