Jonny Bairstow and Cameron Bancroft were involved in ‘headbutt’ incident

Australian opener Cameron Bancroft had spoken out on ‘Headbutt’ incident with the England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow in Perth a few weeks ago.

Bancroft and Bairstow were playing for the same squad, the Western Australia and had gone out to celebrate their win over Tasmania. Jonny had just arrived in town for a warm-up match and when the two parties bumped into each other at the Avenue bar, well, it didn’t turn out good for the Australian batsman.

The incident created a lot of Buzz during the first Ashes Test after Australia were caught out ripping into Bairstow while he was at the crease. Bancroft recalled what happened that night. Describing the incident, the Aussie opener said, “Yeah, he just greeted me with a headbutt kind of thing. I was expecting a handshake, but it wasn’t the greeting of choice that I was expecting. As I say, a handshake or a hug or something like that would have been something I would have expected more than a headbutt.”

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan and former Aussie wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist added a bit of humor to the incident. Both are part of the commentary team for BT Sports TV broadcasters. Vaughan did his best impression of Bairstow, smashing Gilchrist with a friendly headbutt as he spoke to the camera.

After the imitation of the incident, Gilchrist jokingly said, “Goodness, I was not expecting that, I was just expecting a handshake.”

Bancroft had a good debut Ashes Test as he scored an unbeaten 82 to help Australia win the first Test of the Ashes series at the Gabba, the highest fourth-innings score ever by an Australian on Test debut.
