However, after putting up 97 runs, India started losing wickets and their middle-order woes soon witnessed another fall and they slipped to 145-5 as well. After KL Rahul’s 84, Ravindra Jadeja scored a steady 56 off 86 as well. While batting at the lower end, Jasprit Bumrah showed no mercy on the bowlers and he hit them all over the park. He hit a massive six off Sam Curran’s bowling which left everyone surprised as well.

Meanwhile, before the match started, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli reckons that the Test team is definitely much better prepared for the upcoming five-Test match series against England as they have been in the country for almost two months and got acclimatized to the conditions. Compared to 2018, when India suffered a 1-4 loss due to a couple of bad sessions, the skipper feels that they are “much better prepared” this time around as they have got acclimatized with changes in the weather pattern.

Talking about the same during the pre-match press conference on the eve of the first Test, Virat Kohli said, “We are definitely much better prepared than we have been in the past. The players, who were inexperienced in 2018 are now more experienced. Yes, there will be failures but we will have enough players to raise their hands up and be counted in pressure situations.”
