Sanju Samson finally made his One-Day International debut in the third One-Day International against Sri Lanka in Colombo. He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe back in 2015 and had to wait another six years to represent India in ODIs.
Ishan Kishan was rested during the third ODI and Samson was handed debut cap. He came good with the bat as he scored run a ball 46 runs, which includes five fours and one six. However, he was outfoxed by a piece of smart advice from Sri Lankan skipper Minod Bhanuka.

During the 19th over, Bhanuka advised something to bowler Praveen Jayawickrama in the local language. On the very next ball, Samson tried to play inside out drive to Jayawickrama but was caught at extra cover by Avishka Fernando.

After winning the toss, Shikhar Dhawan opted to bat first. India handed five debut caps during the third game. Other than Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, K Gowtham, Rahul Chahar and Chetan Sakaria made their debut for India.
Shikhar Dhawan was looking dangerous before getting out. Prithvi Shaw scored run a ball 49 runs before getting out. Samson also followed him in the pavilion soon after. India lost wickets in a cluster and got all out for 225 in 43.1 overs.

The game was revised to 47 overs due to rain, which came during the Indian innings. Sri Lanka are required to score 227 according to the DLS method in order to win the third ODI.
They began their chase with confidence and are currently cruising well to chase the target down. Currently, Sri Lanka are 164/3 in 28 overs and need another 63 runs to gain a consolation victory.
