On March 27, 2016, India outplayed Australia by six wickets in their last group stage match to qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-finals. Virat Kohli was the highest run-scorer for India with unbeaten 82-run innings, thanks to a crucial partnership with Dhoni for the fifth wicket in the chase. Dhoni played an unbeaten knock of 18 runs off 10 balls as India pulled off a 161-run chase with five balls to spare in Mohali.

Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli recalled a “special night” from the tournament and thanked the wicket-keeper batsman for making him “run like in a fitness test”. Virat Kohli tweeted, “A game I can never forget. Special night. This man, made me run like in a fitness test”.

 

This picture led to the rumors making rounds regarding the retirement announcement of the latter. The speculations were on an overdrive mode regarding the possibility of the Dhoni to call a press conference on Thursday to announce his retirement. his wife Sakshi came up with the most authentic response to rumors as she posted three words on Twitter which read: “It’s called rumors!”

On Saturday, during the pre-match press conference ahead of the three-match T20I series against South Africa, Kohli also clarified the issue and justified why he had posted that picture with Dhoni as he said that the match has always been very special for him.

Virat elaborated, “I did not have anything on my mind, I was just sitting at my home and I just uploaded the picture. It became news, it is a lesson for me about what I think about myself, the world does not necessarily see it that way. That game is very special, I have not openly talked about it so that is why I uploaded the picture but people took it otherwise.”

Recently, Dhoni had a break from cricket after India’s 50-over World Cup campaign surprisingly ended in the semi-finals. According to PTI, the Indian selectors seem to have had a chat with Dhoni about his availability for the home series against South Africa.
